City Approves Pathway Forward for the Construction of a New Water Treatment Plant
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – At today’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the City Council acted on seven agenda items relating to the funding, construction, and power delivery of a new water treatment plant that will provide thirty million gallons per day to the Coastal Bend.
The City of Corpus Christi received a water rights permit in 2022 and a draft discharge permit in 2023 for the Inner Harbor Seawater Desalination Treatment Plant.
Low-interest loans were obtained from the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT) through the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) in 2017 and 2020. Corpus Christi Water (CCW) will compete for another source of funds from SWIFT, as well as a federal grant from the United States Bureau of Reclamation.
Today’s actions ensure the lowest cost for CCW’s customers (residential, commercial, industrial, and contracts) to deliver a new, drought-proof water supply.
