City Celebrates Groundbreaking for Northwest Police Substation
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The City of Corpus Christi held a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday, March 26 to mark the start of construction for a new police substation at West Guth Park.
The substation will allow residents to connect with law enforcement and officers to remain close to the community they serve. Voters approved the facility as part of Bond 2022 and Bond 2024.
The substation will join one already in Flour Bluff and another one planned along Yorktown Boulevard on the City’s Southside. It is part of a strategic plan to position law enforcement resources closer to the communities they serve.
“This allows the public to come in and meet their police officers,” City Manager Peter Zanoni said. “That’s why we have a strong relationship between police officers and the community; we are constantly engaging the community.”
“We have boots on the ground, and construction is beginning for this substation that will enhance our services to the Northwest neighborhood,” Police Chief Mike Markle said. “Substations allow us to be all that much closer to the community, help strengthen our community policing initiatives and highlight our overall commitment to public safety in every corner of our city.”
The 7,300-square-foot building will have:
· Armory and evidence storage for operational efficiency
· UTV and bicycle storage to expand mobility for officers
· Secure interview rooms
· Workstations, offices and conference spaces for officer collaboration and training
· Controlled access points and high-level surveillance system for security
· 90 parking spaces and
· a backup emergency generator
