City of Corpus Christi Provides Update on Recent Reservoir Readings
Equipment Issue Resolved: Recent Rainfall Benefits Still Reflected in Lake Levels
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Corpus Christi Water is providing clarification regarding recent water level readings at Lake Corpus Christi following beneficial rainfall last week.
Most of the region saw 2 to 6 inches of rainfall. Following this much-needed precipitation, City officials observed what appeared to be a decline in reservoir levels over the weekend, prompting further investigation.
Early on March 28th, technical field staff from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) visited the Wesley Seale Dam to address one of their gauges that was malfunctioning at Lake Corpus Christi. Their equipment has been repaired and is now providing accurate measurements of current conditions.
The current reading for Lake Corpus Christi reports 23.7%, while the combined reservoir capacity is now at 17.8%, which reflects the impact of last week’s beneficial rainfall in our water supply.
The USGS maintains a comprehensive network of monitoring equipment that provides data for both current and historical reservoir and lake levels. This data is collected through both discrete field-water level measurements and continuous time-series recordings from automated equipment. The City relies on the USGS team to provide us with accurate and reliable data.
The City is aware of rumors that a substantial amount of water was lost. This is a false and inaccurate statement. Additionally, the City has not released any water from Lake Corpus Christi to the bays and estuaries since the City entered into Stage 2 drought restrictions in March 2024, nor are we required to until our western combined reservoirs return above 30%.
