City Statement: Clarification on Reservoir Reporting Methods

The City of Corpus Christi is aware of a recent social media post regarding reservoir reporting methods. The post suggests Corpus Christi Water (CCW) has changed its reservoir reporting to include Lake Texana in addition to Lake Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon. It further claims this change was made to deliberately inflate reported reservoir levels from 18.3% to over 25%.

CCW has not made any changes to its reservoir reporting methods. The information referenced in the social media post comes from the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) Water Data for Texas website, which is a separate entity that categorizes reservoirs in different ways, including region and river basin.

CCW consistently uses data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The reservoir capacity calculations are based on combining only Lake Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon reservoirs.

The City and CCW remains committed to providing accurate and consistent information about water resources to the public
