City Statement: Councilmember Conduct

The City of Corpus Christi is aware of a recent story in the local media regarding the conduct of Corpus Christi City Councilwoman Sylvia Campos.

To clarify, the City Manager was not present during the incident or during any of the interviews that were part of the HR investigation. The employee that made the complaint described behavior that is grossly inappropriate in a professional setting, even assuming that a medical incident explains what initially occurred in the conference room. The report of a custodial employee who cleaned the restroom is also cause for concern, even accepting the councilmember's explanation.

Employee grievances such as these should be investigated, and it would be disrespectful to our employees to do otherwise.

Untrue allegations have been made that the City Manager directed employees to make false statements about what occurred. The employees who spoke to Human Resources did so on their own volition without any City Manager involvement.
