City to Experience Another Night of Freezing Conditions

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The National Weather Service forecasts a second night of below-freezing temperatures in the Corpus Christi area. The below-freezing temperatures will likely last ten to twelve hours overnight on Tuesday. The arctic freeze will lead to dangerous wind chill values across the region through Wednesday morning. Residents are urged to protect people, property, pets, and plants.

The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority will provide free transportation to and from the warming center during available hours. For more information, go to https://www.ccrta.org.

Homeless Shelters:

The City is working with homeless agencies to ensure shelter, meals, and blankets are provided for homeless individuals.

The Salvation Army and Good Samaritan Rescue Mission will increase their overnight capacity for people experiencing homelessness. The Gulf Coast Humane Society is donating its services by hosting the pets of the person who is homeless as needed.

Cold Weather Refuge Center:

The Corpus Christi Gym, located at 3202 Cabaniss Parkway, remains open around the clock as a free, cold-weather refuge during this weather event. The center will run continuously through 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Daytime Warming Centers:

The City will offer daytime warming centers that are free and open to the public. The hours of operation will be from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
