City Utility Billing Explained
Some Customers May See an Increase
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The City of Corpus Christi is aware that some utility customers may have questions about their monthly bills. In September 2024, the City Council adopted the City’s operating and capital budget totaling $1.8 billion for Fiscal Year 2025, which began October 1, 2024.
As previously reported, the budget reflects the City's continued commitment to providing public services, programs, and infrastructure that enhance the quality of life for Corpus Christi citizens.
The budget includes the following rate adjustments:
Water/Wastewater Rates Effective January 1, 2025
- Monthly water rate decreases of $1.77 for residential customers based on usage of 6,000 gallons of water per month
- Monthly wastewater rate increase of $4.68 for residential customers based on usage of 5,000 gallons of water per month
- The average residential customer will only see a $2.91 ($4.68 minus $1.77) net increase for monthly water/wastewater services
Storm Water Rates Effective October 1, 2024
- Monthly storm water rate increase of $1.48
Other Services
- Solid Waste - No rate adjustment
- Gas – No City rate adjustment. However, residents may see a Purchase Gas Adjustment (PGA) on their bill that represents higher costs from the City’s gas supplier when demand exceeds supply.
- The City of Corpus Christi continues to have the lowest gas rates in the state.
- Residents using gas for home heating will see an increase due to higher-than-normal usage.
The Utility Billing Office proactively mailed an insert showing the proposed 2025 water and wastewater rate changes in the November 2024 utility bill.
Some customers may notice an increase in their overall bills due to these approved changes.
The City of Corpus Christi Gas Department and the Utility Business Office provides assistance to those in need during the winter season. The annual Operation Heat Help program offers financial assistance to qualifying natural gas customers by covering up to $100 (per household) for the gas portion of their utility bill from November 2024 through February 2025.
CCGAS is currently accepting applications until Friday, February 28, 2025.
To apply for assistance, the individual must be the utility account holder. More information and applications are available at www.cctexas.com/OperationHeatHelp.
Funds are limited each year, and awards are given to those who qualify on a first-come, first-served basis.
