Corpus Christi Water Assessing Reported Changes in Water Taste and Odor
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Corpus Christi Water (CCW) is aware of recently reported feedback from some residents regarding changes in the taste and odor of their drinking water.
CCW has recently changed the source-water blend by increasing water from the Mary Rhodes Pipeline (MRP) and reducing water conveyance from Lake Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon reservoirs.
Since March 24, 2025, the Mary Rhodes Pipeline has been operating at Schedule 4 (approximately 70 million gallons per day), which is a nearly 30% increase in flow.
This modification to the water blend, along with recent and significant rainfall over the western recharge zones, can impact our drinking water quality and may result in taste and odor concerns that some residents have reported through the City’s 3-1-1 call center.
In response to these complaints, CCW staff have been dispatched to each service request location to test the water and confirm it remains safe and compliant with all regulatory requirements.
The City will continue to monitor water quality closely and respond to questions as they may arise.
CCW is recognized as a Superior Rated Public Water System by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the highest rating a public water system can achieve in Texas.
If you have concerns with your drinking water, please contact 3-1-1.
