Grants to Address Homelessness and Park Improvements Approved by City Council
$5.2 million for local agencies and park improvements
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – At yesterday’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the Council approved $5.2 million for grants to address homelessness and for park improvements.
Three organizations were awarded $3.8 million in grants to address homelessness. Grant funds were made available by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Grant awards were made to:
• Corpus Christi Housing Authority for $1,369,740 for tenant-based rental assistance
• Endeavors for $1,210,696 for supportive services
• Coastal Bend Center for Independent Living for $1,210,696 for supportive services
The City will invest over $1.37 million in grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant program into many community parks and facilities. Funds were made available from cost savings from previously funded projects. Park improvements include:
• Installing amenities such as swings, tables, benches, and BBQs at 24 parks
• Basketball court improvements at Dr. H.C. Dilworth Park, Molina Veterans Park, and San Diego Park
• Oak Park Recreation Center Roof Repairs
• Greenwood Pool Filter Renovation
• Ben Garza Gym generator design and engineering
• Garcia Park Softball Field fencing
• New Bayview Cemetery Fencing and Lighting design and improvements
• Oak Park Playground Improvements Construction
• Playground Improvements design for Catalina Martinez Park and San Carlos Park
