Temporary Closure of Watergarden Fountain
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department announces the temporary closure of the Watergarden fountain, located at 1901 N. Shoreline, for the replacement of several parts that have failed but are still under warranty. The work will take place starting Sunday, April 13, through Saturday, April 19, weather permitting. The replacing of these parts prior to the expiration of the warranty this May is essential to safeguard taxpayer money.
The contractor handling the project, Fulton Construction, has scheduled the work for next week, requiring the pumping mechanisms to be shut off and the water be completely drained this weekend to ensure the necessary components are dry before the repairs begin.
Prior to this weekend, the water had been turned down to the lowest pressure possible to still be running due to current drought conditions. Since December 2024, the Watergarden has operated using a single pump for circulation, and the water has been treated with an evaporation inhibitor to minimize water usage.
Once the repairs are completed at the end of next week, the Watergarden will need to be refilled, as the structure cannot be left dry, as doing so can cause harm to the mechanical components. Due to public contact considerations, the use of effluent water cannot be utilized for the required 43,000 gallons.
