Community Cats
Outdoor cats are commonly known as "community cats." Some of these felines may have been born and raised outdoors, completely unfamiliar with indoor living, while others might have once been pets that were abandoned outside by their owners. Cats that have adjusted to life outside often develop excellent hunting skills, assisting neighborhoods in managing rodent and pest problems.
Trap Neuter Return (TNR) - Community cats can reproduce quickly and may, in large quantities, become a nuisance to their surrounding area. It’s recommended that Community cats participate in a TNR program. These programs involve trapping the cats, surgically sterilizing (spaying/neutering) them, vaccinating, and ear-tipping them for easy identification as TNR participants before they are returned to their outdoor colonies. Below are some local resources.
