Animal Care Services
Surrender Your Pet
We can only accept surrenders for residents of the City of Corpus Christi. Surrender appointments are currently being scheduled 3-4 weeks out. We will accommodate any emergencies as best we can.
There are a multitude of reasons you may need to surrender your pet and it can be a difficult decision to make. Due to capacity limits, ACS asks pet owners to read over the different resources available to help families keep or rehome their pets prior to scheduling an owner surrender.
Resources to help you keep or rehome your pet
The 3-3-3 Rule
If you recently adopted from ACS or another shelter and your new pet is having issues adapting to your home, we encourage you to look over our 3-3-3 Rule which covers what you can expect from a recently adopted pet at 3 days, 3 weeks, and 3 months.
Free & Low- cost Pet Care
ACS and our community partners hold several low-cost and free events for corpus Christi residents. Pet owners can update their pet’s vaccines, sign up for spay/neuter services, and receive free pet food. (add a link to our calendar and we can ask if we can add gulf coast and paac facebook links).
Use Your Network
Reach out to trusted friends, family, or other people in your network. Many owners successfully find homes through the use of friends and social media. Post your pet’s information (pictures and description of their personality) online. Ask your friends and family to spread the word- you never know who might be looking for a new pet.
Give Yourself Time
If time allows, be patient in your rehoming search. It might take weeks to find the right fit for your pet. Allow potential new owners to take your pet on a trial basis if needed.
Explore Available Options
If you are moving to another city with a humane society or animal welfare organization, ask them about their surrender program or rehoming tips for the area.
Appointment Required to Owner Surrender Your Pets
Pet(s) are accepted by appointment only and based on available space in our kennels. There will be a one-time $50 surrender fee per pet ($100 if a Bite surrender).
If you would like to apply for an appointment, please fill out the appropriate owner surrender form below. Please note that we will not consider your application if it is not complete, or without a photo of the pet(s) and any veterinary records (if applicable).
