Biography of Peter Zanoni

Peter Zanoni has served as City Manager of Corpus Christi since his unanimous appointment in April 2019. He brings over 28 years of municipal government management experience to the role. He oversees 4,100 employees and manages a $1.8 billion budget, driving the city’s growth with a focus on transparency, efficiency, and community engagement.

Peter’s outstanding financial leadership has earned the city multiple credit rating upgrades from Standard and Poor's and Fitch Ratings. Under his tenure, the City has maintained a strong financial position and sustained essential services without raising property taxes. Furthermore, Peter's renegotiation of Industrial District Agreements (IDAs) is projected to generate an additional $120 million over the term of the agreement.

Since 2019, Peter has initiated over $695 million in street repairs and improvements, modernizing vital arterial roads and streets to support the city's continued growth. Under his leadership, public safety has been significantly enhanced. The Corpus Christi Police Department has expanded to over 500 officers, introduced advanced technologies, and established the city’s first dedicated Police Training Academy. The Corpus Christi Fire Department has also seen significant investments, including increased staffing to 455 personnel, new fire stations, upgraded equipment, and new vehicles.

With Peter's oversight, Corpus Christi earned and continues to maintain a superior water quality rating as recognized by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). As the city's primary water supplier for the seven-county region, he is leading efforts to develop the nation's first municipal seawater desalination plant, securing a transformative, environmentally-friendly, affordable, and drought-proof water source for the future.

Peter has also focused on revitalizing and activating public spaces, including reopening the family-friendly Cole Park Pier and Plaza, restoring the iconic Watergarden, building splash pads and skate parks, and planning a $13 million hike-and-bike trail over Oso Bay. These investments have created new recreational opportunities and amenities for residents and visitors alike.

Driven by his commitment to transparency and community engagement, Peter spearheaded the creation of the 311 Customer Call Center to ensure that city services are more accessible to residents. His dedication to improving communication and responsiveness earned him recognition as the Corpus Christi Caller-Times Newsmaker of the Year in 2021.

Before joining Corpus Christi, Peter held the position of Deputy City Manager in San Antonio. He holds a Master of Public Administration from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Arts from Jacksonville University. A resident of Corpus Christi, Peter and his wife have raised their sons in the city, reinforcing his commitment to making it the best city in Texas to live, work, and raise a family.
