STI/HIV Provider Resources
Timely, complete and accurate sexually transmitted and HIV/AIDS infection reporting enables surveillance to monitor the disease burden and track changes in the conditions. Communicable disease reporting is exempt from HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996).
Texas Administrative Code: Title 25 › Health Services Part 1 › Department of State Health Services › Chapter 97 › Communicable Disease › Subchapter A › Control of Communicable Disease details requirements to health care providers and laboratories. Reports are made via the DSHS Confidential Report of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Form using complete patient demographics, the reportable condition, treatment and the name of the diagnosing provider or facility. A copy of labs should support the form.
