Parks and Recreation
Volunteer with Parks and Recreation
Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation provides a variety of meaningful ways for individuals, community groups, and businesses to showcase their commitment to the community through volunteering. Volunteers play a vital role in building a strong sense of community that enriches our lives. We are very grateful for all our volunteers who help us enhance our services with their time and dedication!
This program is designed to build vibrant communities by connecting volunteers with parks. It offers volunteers ways to dedicate their time and talents to the maintenance and development of Corpus Christi’s unique park system. Our Department maintains over 190 parks that provide open space, recreation areas, and facilities from Padre Island to Five Points. Join us to clean up parks and beaches, add a coat of paint to playgrounds, or plant trees.
The first step to adopting a park is to submit an Adopt-A-Park application form, linked below. Once you have selected a park and completed the application, submit a copy to Lisa Oliver at LisaO@cctexas.com
Youth Sports League Volunteer Coaches
Volunteers provide coaching for our various youth sports leagues, including basketball, baseball, and micro-soccer. A one-day mandatory training session is usually provided for volunteer coaches and assistant coaches.
Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve & Learning Center
If you would love to inspire residents in our community to connect with nature, join the Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve team! We seek dedicated volunteers whose talents and skills will help us achieve the preserve's mission. Volunteers help with school field trips, summer camps, nature walks, special events, and more. They also serve as Learning Center hosts, stewardship and trail maintenance workers, and other various duties. For more information, please contact Preserve Manager Tonya Whatley at (361) 826-3432 or TonyaW@cctexas.com.
Senior Companions Program
Senior Companion volunteers provide assistance with daily living tasks and companionship to home-bound and disabled seniors. Senior Companions must be age 55+ and meet established income eligibility guidelines to serve 15 to 40 hours per week and receive hourly stipends.
Commissions and Committees
The City of Corpus Christi has various commissions and committees, of which the Parks & Recreation Department serves as liaison on five boards. Serving on a City board provides an excellent opportunity to make a difference in your community.

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)
The AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program provides grants to organizations with a dual purpose: to engage Americans 55 years and older in volunteer service to meet critical community needs and to provide a high-quality experience for the volunteers. Since 1977, the City of Corpus Christi has been the local sponsor for RSVP. The RSVP program serves all of Nueces County and currently has over 250 active volunteers.
