Street Closures and Traffic Impacts - February 21, 2025
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX—Below are street closures along major City streets that impact motorists and pedestrians. These closures may be due to construction, special event activity, or maintenance. All closures are subject to change due to weather, emergency work, or other circumstances.
Work zone safety is a priority. Motorists are advised to slow down, follow posted speed limits, pay attention, watch out for workers, obey signs and flaggers, and allow additional travel time for delays.
CITY STREET RECONSTRUCTION OR MAINTENANCE PROJECTS
Alameda Street – Louisiana Avenue to Texan Trail
The northbound lanes on South Alameda Street will close from Louisiana Avenue to Texan Trail. Traffic will be redirected to two-way, single-lane traffic within the southbound lanes. The closure is expected to remain in effect until May 2025.
Alameda Street – At Everhart Road
Continuing: one northbound lane of South Alameda Street will be closed at the intersection of Everhart Road for utility line work. Northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane. The east side of the South Alameda Street and Everhart Road intersection also will be closed.
Brownlee Boulevard – Staples Street to Morgan Avenue
Phase 1 of the Brownlee Boulevard project is underway. This first phase will involve a full closure of Brownlee Boulevard from Staples Street to Ayers Street.
Comanche Street – Carancahua Street to North Alameda Street
The Comanche Street Project continues in Phases 3 and 4. The street reconstruction will result in the full closure of Comanche Street from North Alameda Street to North Staples Street to Artesian Street.
Elizabeth Street – Santa Fe Street to South Staples Street
The eastbound lane of Elizabeth Street between South Staples Street and Santa Fe Street is closed for a reconstruction project. Left turns onto Elizabeth Street from Santa Fe Street, heading towards Staples Street, will be restricted during this time.
Everhart Road – Staples Street to South Alameda Street
The Everhart Road reconstruction project is in Phase 2A. The current Traffic Control Plan (TCP) will extend from Jacquelyn Drive to South Staples Street. The northbound lanes will be closed from South Staples Street to South Alameda Street. Traffic will be redirected to the southbound lanes, allowing two-way single-lane traffic. Two-way traffic will switch back to the northbound lanes from South Staples Street to McArdle Road. Additionally, the northbound lanes of South Staples Street will be closed on either side of Everhart Road. Left turns will be prohibited in all directions at the intersection of Everhart Road and South Staples Street.
Phase 1C is also in place and will extend the current Traffic Control Plan (TCP) from Burney Drive to the intersection at McArdle Road. The southbound lanes will be closed from South Staples Street to McArdle Road. Traffic will be redirected to the northbound lanes, allowing two-way single-lane traffic. Left turns onto McArdle Road from Everhart Road will be prohibited. Additionally, left turns onto Burney Drive from Everhart Road will be prohibited. Work will be done concurrently with Phase 1B and Phase 2.
Additional intermittent intersection closures will occur between South Padre Island Drive and South Alameda Street.
Flato Road – Bear Lane to Bates Road
The Flato Road Project continues in Phase 1. During this phase, Flato Road will be closed from the intersection of Bear Lane to the second driveway of West Oso High School.
Gollihar Road – Greenwood Drive to Crosstown Expressway
Phase 2 of the Gollihar Road project has begun. Gollihar Road will be partially closed on the eastbound lane from Bernadino Street to the Crosstown Expressway. Motorists will still have single-lane, two-way traffic.
Lexington Boulevard – Leopard Street to Hopkins Road
North Lexington Boulevard will be closed to through traffic between Lantana Street and Hopkins Street. The closure will remain in effect for approximately four weeks.
Lipes Boulevard – Sun Wood Drive to Staples Street
Lipes Boulevard between Sun Wood Drive and Clubgate Drive is closed to through traffic for construction.
Nueces Bay Boulevard – Leopard Street to West Broadway Street
The northbound lanes of Nueces Bay Boulevard are closed from Leopard Street to West Broadway Street for water line replacement work. Traffic will be redirected to the southbound lanes, allowing two-way, single-lane traffic. The intersections of Nueces Bay Boulevard and Antelope Street, Noakes Street, Hulbirt Street, and Koepke Street will also be closed. The project’s expected completion date is July 2025.
McArdle Road – Kostoryz Road to Carroll Lane
The project is now in Phase 2. The contractor will switch traffic control on McArdle Road from Carroll Lane to Kostoryz Road to the eastbound lane to facilitate ongoing roadwork. The westbound lane, featuring newly completed concrete pavement, will be opened for one-way westbound traffic.
Oso Parkway – Bar-Le-Doc Drive
City Storm Water Maintenance crews will replace drainage infrastructure underneath Oso Parkway's drainage crossing. City crews will set up a temporary full street closure of Oso Parkway to perform maintenance repairs. Message boards and construction signage will guide motorists around the closure. Residential access will not be affected by the temporary street closure.
Yorktown Boulevard – Rodd Field Road to Oso Creek Mud Bridge
Construction is underway on the Yorktown Boulevard project. The westbound lanes of Yorktown Boulevard will be closed from Geiger Road to the Oso Creek Mud Bridge. Traffic will be redirected to the eastbound lanes, allowing two-way traffic.
CITY PERMITTED CLOSURES
Lomax Street – North Mesquite Street to North Chaparral Street
A contractor will have two 20-cubic-yard dumpsters on site for approximately 30 days. TAMUCC is renovating its first floor at Lomax Street & Chapparal Street. It requires the equipment to remove trash and debris accordingly.
John Sartain Street – North Chaparral Street to North Water Street
N Water Street – Lomax Street to John Sartain Street
N Chaparral Street – Lomax Street to John Sartain Street
A contractor will renovate the exterior fascia of the Education Service Center building in the 300 block of John Sartain Street, downtown Corpus Christi. The contractor will temporarily occupy the parking spaces along N Water Street, John Sartain Street, and N Chaparral Street adjacent to the building. Warning signs will advise motorists and pedestrians ahead of time regarding the construction. Construction at this location is expected to last several weeks.
Port Avenue – Horne Road to Baldwin Boulevard (Clark Pipeline)
The contractor is replacing a 16-inch water main along South Port Avenue from Horne Road to Baldwin Boulevard. Construction has progressed into the next phase. However, Southbound Port Avenue will remain reduced to one lane between Baldwin Boulevard and Tarlton Street, utilizing the center turn lane as the travel lane. Northbound Port Avenue travel lanes will not be affected. In addition, other lane closures along the project limits may occur for lateral waterline installations. Construction at this location is estimated to last several months.
Port Avenue – Agnes Street to Lipan Street
A contractor for Corpus Christi Water Department (CCW) is making utility improvements along Port Avenue. To perform demolition operations safely, the contractor is implementing a temporary shoulder and sidewalk closure. Warning signs will advise motorists and pedestrians ahead of time regarding the construction. Construction at this location is expected to last several months.
